Girls’ hockey blanks Spaulding, 4-0

MIDDLEBURY — On Dec. 29 the Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team snapped a three-game skid with a solid 4-0 win over Spaulding in the consolation game at the Tigers’ own Fletcher “Buster” Brush Holiday Classic at the Memorial Sports Center.
The Tigers, dealing with a major injury bug, scored twice in the first period to also end a streak of three scoreless games on the way to improving their record to 2-3.
Raven Payne led the attack with a goal and an assist, and Tulley Hescock, Audrey Schnoor and Justine Smith also found the net. Goalies Abby Hodsden and Bridget Audet — seeing her first varsity ice hockey action — combined for seven saves to share the shutout. Spaulding goalie Amber McGinley stopped 36 shots.
