Girls’ hockey wins with late strikes

NEWPORT — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team edged host North Country Union/Lyndon on Saturday with a pair of late goals.
Both Tiger scores came in the final four minutes after goalie Abby Hodsden, a late addition to the Tiger roster, held NCU/Lyndon at bay. Hodsden made 26 saves to backstop the victory as the Tigers improved to 2-1.
Bella Gale and Merry Kimble netted the MUHS goals, and Taylor Moulton picked up an assist. Gale scored for the third straight game. NCU/L goalie Courtney Lewis stopped 14 shots.
Next up for the Tigers is their annual holiday tournament this coming weekend. They will play Rutland at 5 p.m. on Friday and Spaulding at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
