Boys’ basketball teams lose games

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school boys’ basketball action late last week, Mount Abraham, Middlebury, Vergennes and Otter Valley all came up short. 
EAGLES
The Eagles dropped two close games. On Wednesday Division I St. Albans opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to wipe out a 42-40 Eagle lead on the way to a 61-55 victory at Mount Abe. Bobwhite Tyler Yates hit two threes in that surge and scored 11 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter; Yates sank seven shots from behind the arc.
Liam Kelliher scored 21 points to lead Mount Abe, and Henry Cogswell added 17.
On Saturday visiting Enosburg got a tie-breaking free throw from Owen McKinstry with seven seconds to go to edge the Eagles 46-45, in a back-and-forth game. Ethan Williams scored 20 to lead the Hornets.
Kelliher scored 10, including a layup off a steal to give the Eagles the lead with a minute to go. Griffin Paradee and Quincy Cook chipped in eight points apiece as Mount Abe dropped to 6-6 with games at Milton and North Country this week.
COMMODORES
On Wednesday host Missisquoi improved to 8-3 by outlasting the Commodores, 59-55, in a game that was close throughout. Patrick Walker and Matthew Curtis each tossed in 16 to lead MVU.
Commodore Ben Curtis led all scorers with 19, and Luke Bergmans added 10 for VUHS.
On Friday visiting North Country topped VUHS, 59-35. Corbin Brueck led the Falcons 19 points.
Kevin Jackson scored 14 for the Commodores, who fell to 0-11 heading into a Tuesday game at MUHS.
OTTERS
On Friday host Mt. Anthony cruised to a 74-47 victory over the visiting Otters. Gavin Johnson tossed in 22 points for MAU. Parker Todd (16) and Hayden Bernhardt (11) led OV, which is 3-8 and will host Hartford on Tuesday.
TIGERS
Host Enosburg caught the Tigers on an off night on Wednesday and cruised to a 58-31 victory. The Hornets took a 26-14 lead at halftime and pulled away. Hornet Devyn Gleason led all scorers with 15 points.
Tyler Buxton and Mason Kaufmann each scored nine for MUHS.
The Tigers’ Saturday game vs. Missisquoi was moved to Feb. 3. They are 6-5 heading into Tuesday.
