Old Bones to play in Bristol Sep. 12

BRISTOL — The band Old Bones will perform on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the Bristol town green for their 12th and final annual Country and Gospel music concert to benefit Village2Village Project’s orphans, needy children and their caretakers in Uganda. Due to COVID-19 there is an even greater need than previous years.
Old Bones has raised thousands of dollars over the years for Village2Village Project, a charity born in the local First Baptist Church of Bristol. V2VProject now supports more than 134 orphaned and needy children and HIV guardians in northeastern Uganda. Sponsors come from all over the world and are helping to make a difference in children’s lives.
To add to the afternoon’s enjoyment this year the gifted group Honey in the Hive will be joining the Old Bones. Honey in the Hive is a family band inspired by a wide variety of musical traditions including Appalachia, Cape Breton, France, Ireland, Scotland and Scandinavia. It includes: Romy on fiddle, viola, flute, whistle, small pipes, vocals and feet; Ben on piano, mandolin and accordion; Andrew Munkres on 5-string banjo, guitar, accordion and vocals; and Kristin Bolton on upright bass, feet and vocals. Honey in the Hive has performed at events in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
Teenagers Romy and Ben Munkres won the Young Tradition Vermont (YTV) contest in May 2018 and have performed as a duo at dances and festivals in Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and Quebec. They have toured with Young Tradition to Ireland, Cape Breton, Quebec, Scotland and metro New York and New Jersey. They currently play as a duo, with the family band, and most recently the YTV Touring Group, and an ensemble led by Romy, the Young Tradition Youth Commission.
Donations will be received for Village2VillageProject at the concert. Containers will be set out on tables in the park for them. Donations can also be made at Village2VillageProject.org or on their Facebook page. The goal is to raise $2,000 or more. When giving online please write a note signifying that it’s from the Old Bones concert.
For those desiring to listen to the Old Bones throughout the year, they are offering a CD called the “Best of the Old Bones” for a donation for V2VProject. These will also be on a table.
Bring chairs or blankets and masks. Remember to sit in family or social groups that are six feet apart from other groups or also sit in your car. Round out the afternoon with a brownie sundae for $5 offered by the First Baptist Church of Bristol. All proceeds go to V2VProject.
The concert will run on Sept. 13 in the event of rain.
