ACSD to return its youngest kids to full in-person learning
MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central School District announced on Friday that it would move from its hybrid model to full in-person learning, five days a week, for students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade next month. Pre-K through second grade will make this shift on October 12; third through sixth grades will begin the new schedule on Oct. 19.
The decision was prompted by Governor Scott’s announcement earlier in the week to move the state to Step 3 of the Healthy Start Guidelines that direct how schools operate within the constraints of the pandemic.
“We also continue to look at data and state guidance regionally and locally in determining the current hybrid phase at the secondary level (MUMS and MUHS) and potential shifts to more in-person instruction,” wrote ACSD superintendent Peter Burrows in an email on Friday. “We will update our community in the weeks ahead as we assess reentry criteria.”Elsewhere in the county, Addison Northwest School District has announced a tentative plan to gradually return its kindergarten through sixth graders back to full, in-person learning by October 19. And Mount Abraham Union School District is bringing back full-time in-person preK-6 on October 5. There will be a full-time remote option, but no longer a hybrid option.
