BRISTOL — Charlotte Elizabeth (Betty) Nelson passed away peacefully on Oct. 21, 2020. Betty was born to Ernest and Olive Raby in Massachusetts on Sept. 15, 1928. She met her future husband, Carl Nelson, while he was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey. She moved to and married him in his hometown, Bristol, Vt. They raised three children, Peter, Neil and Carlene in Bristol.
Charlotte was an active member of the Bristol Federated Methodist Church since her move to Vermont: She was always involved in the Sunday school, as a teacher and superintendent, and most church activities. She was a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society and a longtime member of the church choir. She would never miss the Christmas Bazaar at the Church.
Charlotte was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star. She loved the social interaction both locally and during her time as a state officer. Her enthusiasm radiated from her bright blue eyes. She worked in Middlebury for a time then joined her husband in the family monument business in Bristol until her retirement.
She is survived by her children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her life soul mate and husband Carl passed away in 2015. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, and a grandson.
There will be a celebration of life for Charlotte at the Federated Church in Bristol on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. We ask everyone attending to please wear a mask to the service during this trying time.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of Helen Porter Rehabilitation and Nursing for all their care for Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Bristol Federated Methodist Church or to Hunger Free Vermont. She would have enjoyed this.
