Zeman raises money for Homeward Bound

MIDDLEBURY — For the fifth consecutive time, WVTK’s Bruce Zeman, accomplished what he set out to achieve — raising money to help local animals. This year, with help from his new sidekicks Zoey and Calvin, Zeman raised a substantial amount of money in his annual “Cash for Paws” radiothon held on 92.1 WVTK in Middlebury. The funds will go to support Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society.
With the passing of Hobbes, his long-time radio partner in July, an emotional Zeman dedicated the radiothon to his best friend. “This year’s radiothon I did for Hobbes, so more animals like him would get that second chance,” Zeman said.
For a $10 donation, Zeman and his pups offered to play any song requested by a listener. The radiothon ran from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Nov.12. The goal was to raise $6,000.

Listeners came through. Over 90 people donated, including former Vt. Governor Jim Douglas. Zeman did multiple interviews, sang and even poked fun at himself, all with the goal of helping animals. The radiothon raised $7,361 in 24 hours, with donations still coming in. Zoey and Calvin, for their part, ate cookies and pancakes while doing their best to look good on Local 22/Local 44, which generously provided television coverage.
Including this year’s total, Bruce and his canine buddies have raised more than $65,000 for Homeward Bound over the years.
