Mary Jane Churchill Wing, 94, long-time Lake Dunmore resident

MARY JANE CHURCHILL WING

LEICESTER — Mary Jane Churchill Wing, 94, passed gracefully on Feb. 13, 2021, surrounded by family at her beloved Lake Dunmore. She was born May 5, 1926, in Proctor, Vt., to Winnifred Locke and A. Hawley Churchill of Brandon, Vt. She grew up in Brandon on a self-sufficient farm with a water-powered sawmill, sugarbush, gardens, trout hatchery, Morgan horses and Jersey cows.
She graduated from Brandon High School in 1943. Upon graduation from Stephen’s College, she went to Boston and worked for Eastern Airlines until her marriage to Howard W. (Pete) Wing in 1948. Together they had three daughters: Deborah, Melissa and Heather.
Mary Jane and Pete moved to New Hampshire and raised their girls. In Nashua she was involved with the Nashua NAACP, Memorial Hospital (Board of Trustees), Unitarian Universalist Church (Executive Committee), the March of Dimes, and many political campaigns.
Her best times were spent with her girls on her family’s homestead, Springvale Farm and at Lake Dunmore. Her door was always open and her heart and kitchen overflowing for her family and friends.  She was kind, proud and generous — a classy woman with true grit.
She is survived by Deborah Wing; Melissa H. W. Gibbud and Tim, Heather L. W. Bierschenk and John; five grandsons, three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
If you wish, memorial contributions can be made to the Lake Dunmore Fern Lake Assoc., Box 14, Salisbury VT 05769; or Project Independence, 112 Exchange Street, Middlebury VT 05753
Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a memorial celebration at a later date.◊
