COVID causes Ferrisburgh school to go remote for the week

FERRISBURGH — Two new COVID-19 cases at Ferrisburgh Central School have prompted Addison Northwest School District officials to switch the kindergarten-6th grade school to remote learning as of Tuesday.
ANWSD Superintendent Sheila Soule on Monday, April 12, announced the first case and the decision in an email to ANWSD staff and families. She sent another email Tuesday announcing the second case.
According to the COVID dashboard at anwsd.org, Ferrisburgh Central School staff and students have collectively experienced 18 of the district’s total of 44 cases since the beginning of the school year last September.
In the Monday email, Soule hinted there could be more cases to come at the school.
“We believe the current data does not provide a complete picture of the projected increase in transmissions we may soon experience at FCS. Out of an abundance of caution, we feel it is best to shift to remote learning for all Ferrisburgh (Central School) students for the remainder of the week to allow us to continue to monitor data in preparation for a return to full in-person learning after the April vacation.”
Earlier, Soule suggested to the Independent that May 3 might be a reasonable target date for beginning district-wide in-person learning.
On Tuesday Soule wrote about the second of the two newest COVID cases:
“There are additional individuals who will be required to quarantine and test as a result and Principal Andy Kepes has contacted those impacted. We are still on track to be able to return after the school vacation, however we will continue to monitor the situation and keep in touch with families over the break if necessary.
“We certainly continue to keep the COVID-positive individuals in our thoughts and wish for their speedy recovery.”
