Vermont celebrates Green Up Day May 1

ADDISON COUNTY — A time-honored rite of springtime in Vermont will return this Saturday, May 1, with the marking of Green Up Day.
Thousands of Vermonters will take to the roadsides, fields and stream banks to clean up and green up our beautiful state.
Towns across Addison County are organizing events that will allow people to cooperate in the big spring cleaning, while also adhering to COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Most towns have places to pick up free Green Up trash bags, and places where town trucks will be stationed to receive full bags. Some towns have activities planned, like a cook-out in Leicester.
To see a listing of all the town Green Up coordinators, including contact info, plus details on what each town has planned, head online to tinyurl.com/AddisonCountyGreenUp.
Addison County State Sen. Ruth Hardy encouraged her constituents to lend a hand.
“We know it isn’t your litter but Vermont needs our help to be beautiful,” she wrote in a weekly message. “Pick up your free Green Up supplies from your Volunteer Town Coordinator and spend an hour or two picking up litter around your town. It makes a huge difference and it feels great to give back to your community.”
So, get outside on Saturday and Green Up!
