Brandon woman killed in Route 7 crash in Middlebury
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police continue to investigate a fatal accident involving a collision between a pickup truck and a farm vehicle on Route 7 South in Middlebury on Saturday evening.
Police said their initial findings indicate it was at around 7:16 p.m. on Oct. 3 when a large, box-type farm truck turned from Three Mile Bridge Road onto Route 7, heading north. A pickup truck driven by Donald Castonguay, 57, of Brandon, was also traveling northbound and collided with the left rear portion of the farm truck. The wife of the driver, 47-year-old Mary Alberico, was a passenger in the pickup truck and was pinned inside the vehicle, according to police.
Alberico was pronounced dead at the scene, while Castonguay was taken to Porter Hospital, and then the University of Vermont Medical Center, for treatment of his injuries.
Middlebury Regional EMS and the Middlebury Fire Department assisted Middlebury police at the scene, as did Vermont State Police. Route 7 South was closed, with traffic diverted, for approximately three hours, according to authorities.
