FERRISBURGH — A Monkton man was killed this past Wednesday evening when the motorcycle he was driving on Route 7 in North Ferrisburgh was rear-ended by a car driven by a Vergennes woman who police said was impaired.

Kyle Conner, 31, was driving a Triumph Tiger 850 Sport motorcycle southbound on Route 7 at around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 when he stopped just south of Stage Road before making a left turn into The Village Tavern bar parking lot. While he was waiting to make the turn, a 2012 Nissan Altima came up behind and crashed into Conner, according to Vermont State Police.

Conner was seriously injured, and  the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad took him to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Despite life-saving efforts, Conner died at the hospital.

Troopers spoke with the driver of the Nissan, identified as Faith Hobson, 30, and said she showed signs that she was impaired. So they screened her for driving under the influence of alcohol, arrested her for suspicion of driving under the influence and took her to the Vergennes Police Department for processing. Police cited Hobson for DUI with death resulting, grossly negligent driving, and reckless endangerment.

In Addison County Superior Court, criminal division, on Aug. 27, she pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of driving under the influence and one count of grossly negligent driving resulting in the death of another.

Judge Alison Arms released Hobson with conditions, including that she not drive, not drink alcohol and submit to alcohol testing upon request.

State police report that at the time of the crash the weather was clear and the pavement was dry. Both the car and the bike sustained extensive damage. Hobson was wearing a seatbelt and did not report any injuries.

Family and friends of Conner were invited to celebrate his life at the Village Tavern on Thursday.
