SYLVIA JEAN “SILLY” HALLOCK

VERGENNES — Sylvia Jean “Silly” Hallock, age 76, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home with family by her side.

Sylvia was the first child born to Wayne and Gladys (Shiverette) Hallock, Oct. 27, 1949. Sylvia grew up in Ferrisburgh and graduated from Vergennes Union High School class of 1968.

In 1970 she had her first baby pride and joy Gary Wayne. Then two years later she had her baby girl Tammie Jean. She always put her children first in her life as a single parent.

Sylvia started working at Simmonds Precision, later Goodrich, from which she retired after 35 years. She also held a second job working and having fun with the crew at Vergennes Variety, where the best sandwiches were made! Sylvia also became her mother’s caregiver when she no longer could live alone, in which she took much pride. When retirement started Sylvia also cared for many other ladies who meant the world to her.

Mom loved everyone she came in contact with, especially her “boyfriends.” She was free of life, always ready to have a great time with her sisters from another mother — Janet Brunet dancing, road trip to Virginia to see her extended family; Janet Paquin road trip to Boston and wherever the road traveled; and Gloria stokes, her every morning call to check in. We can’t thank John enough for all he did for mom through the years he was her “rent-a-husband.”

To all you baseball fans, mom was a true N.Y. YANKEE’S FAN!! Mom loved a good game, especially when the opposite team was the Red Sox. She held her ground, and boy if her team won you all knew it. She had huge smiles and laughter.

Camping at Gary’s house in the summertime, Mom always wanted to be helping someone, meeting up at the legion for sign-ups. Even though she didn’t win she would have a favorite drink and maybe a couple Buttery Nipples in hand. You would also find her sitting on the porch every summer reading a good romance novel book.

Elaine and Gary Russell, there are just not enough words to say Thank you!!

Carleen Atkins, you made it possible for me to come home and provide care with Tammie. Silly always thought of you as her second daughter. Chelsey Jerom, thank you for being there for support. It truly meant a lot to all of us.

Sylvia is survived by her son, Gary (Bethany); daughter, Tammie; grandchildren Trevor, Samantha, Ethan, Kyle, Caleb and Cole; two special in her heart, Carrie and Chase Atkins; sister Glenna (Joe) Coyle; two nieces that she adored that called her Aunt Sovie, Christina (Mike) Safford and Lisa Hanlon; and sister Jennie (Wesley) Kimball.

She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, and son-in-law, Michael R. Booska; and her companion dog, Zac that she loved so much.

Remember me with smiles and laughter

For that i will remember you all.

If you remember me with tears

Don’t remember me at all

Thank you to Vergennes Area Rescue for all you did for Sylvia

Per Sylvia’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral. We will be gathering at the American Legion on May 16, at 1 p.m. upstairs, where mom will be there waiting to have a drink or shot with all of you! ◊
