ADELINE “DOLLY” MORSE

MIDDLEBURY — Adeline “Dolly” Morse, age 82, of Middlebury, Vt., passed away Nov. 5, 2025, at the Jack Bryne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 10, 1943, in Springfield, Mass., to Paul J. and Adeline Paroli Simchak. Dolly was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James H. Morse Sr.; son-in-law Timothy Jones; and a baby son. She is survived by her remaining children, Leslie A. Morse-Jones, James H. Morse Jr. and his wife Melanie Morse, Beth M. Morse, and Paul J. Morse and his wife Sandy Morse; six grandchildren; one grandson-in-law and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

In 1957 she met the love of her life, James H Morse Sr.; they were married Aug. 24, 1959, while he was serving in the Army. After his 13-month tour in Korea, they moved to Tacoma Wash. When he was honorably discharged, they returned to Massachusetts and then moved to Vermont in 1982 to pursue his love of farming and his dream of owning his own farm.

She was one of the founders and president of The Tax Team, Inc (founded in 1988), in Middlebury. She enjoyed helping people with their taxes for over 35 years. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and cooking. As a member of the Grange, she volunteered to cook at the Grange’s summer camp, The Grange Center. Her philosophy when it came to cooking was, “There is always room for one more at the table.” This philosophy extended into gardening, as she always insisted extra plants be planted even while going through dialysis so fresh produce could be shared with the food shelves.

A celebration of her life is planned for Nov. 29, at the American Legion in Middlebury from noon to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please honor her with a donation to Bridport Grange or donations to the local food shelves.
