Letter to the editor: ACSD officials thankful for school budget support

The Addison Central School District Board would like to extend its deep gratitude to the ACSD community for its support of the FY25 budget. ACSD’s FY25 budget will help our district with financial stability during our leadership transition and respond to several significant pressures on next year’s finances. Besides addressing the impacts of Act 127 — which will result in a 13% reduction in our district’s portion of the state’s Education Fund — the budget also responds to several other factors, including next year’s expiration of federal ESSER funding, a 16.4% increase in healthcare premium costs, anticipated wage increases due to contract negotiations, and a decline in “non-tuition” student enrollment, among others.

We, as a board, do not take the passage of our budget lightly, and we recognize the impact it has on our taxpayers. During the coming months, we will be focusing on addressing the long-term impacts of Act 127 and working with our administration to develop financially sustainable operations amidst escalating education costs. At the same time, we will ground our discussions and decisions in the priorities that have emerged from our strategic plan to ensure more equitable support and resources for the most vulnerable students and marginalized populations of our learning community.

With sincere gratitude,

Tricia Allen, Brian Bauer, Suzanne Buck, Jason Chance, Joanna Doria, Laura Harthan, Chip Malcolm, Jamie McCullum, Mary Heather Noble, Steve Orzech, Ellie Romp, Ellen Whelan-Wuest and Barb Wilson
