Shoreham to celebrate Pi Day on March 14
SHOREHAM — Celebrate the arrival of spring by coming to Pi Day at the Shoreham Congregational Church on Thursday, March 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. You can buy a slice of pie for $4, or add a scoop of ice cream for another $1. Beverages (coffee, tea, cocoa, or water) are free. Small potted plants to remind you of spring will also be on sale for $5 each.
There will also be a special raffle — A Pie a Month for 6 Months. The winner will take home the first pie that night, and then will be able to have one pie a month of their choosing for each of the next 5 months, date and variety of pie to be determined by mutual agreement between the winner and the baker. This has a value of $100. Raffle tickets are $5 each of 3 tickets for $10. The winner will be drawn that evening, but you do not need to be present to win.
What, you might ask, is Pi Day? It is the celebration of the mathematical constant designated by the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet: pi. The first three numerals in the constant are 3.14, and in the United States the date March 14 is often abbreviated as 3-14 (third month, 14th day).
