Orchards persevere in spite of weather
MONKTON RIDGE ORCHARD owners Charles and Christine LaFreniere say they’ve enjoyed a sweet apple season and welcomed more visitors to pick fruit than in previous years. The orchard’s crop fared well this season despite the weather-related challenges that hurt apple crops throughout the region in 2023.

Local apple growers have had to battle a late spring frost that decimated young fruit crops in May, as well as excessive rain that drenched the region this summer. While some orchards were spared the worst of this year’s weather-related challenges, many growers were left with less fruit to sell this fall.
