Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for DUI following accident
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Stephen M. Belanger, 29, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following a two-vehicle crash, with a serious injury resulting, at the intersection of Court Street and Middle Road north, at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 25.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Responded to a report of a cow in the road near the intersection of Case and East Main streets on May 22.
• Responded to a noise complaint at 112 Weybridge St. on May 22. Police said they determined the individuals in question weren’t making unreasonable noise.
• Investigated a fireworks incident in the Painter Road area on May 22.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a drunken man who had fallen off his bicycle on Main Street on May 22.
• Responded to an unlawful mischief complaint in the Frog Hollow area on May 22.
• Removed an unwanted person from a Nashua Lane shed on May 22.
• Served a no-trespass order on May 23 on a person on behalf of the Dunkin Donuts on Court Street, after the person had allegedly engaged in “unruly conduct.”
• Were asked to inform some people on May 23 that there’s no smoking allowed on Ilsley Library property.
• Were asked on May 23 to pursue an arrest warrant for James A. Turner, 33, based on a fraud complaint. Authorities said the complaint stems from Turner allegedly making “illegitimate purchases… using a business account without permission” at O’Reilly Auto Parts.
• Assisted a man who had been having a mental health episode in the Court Street area on May 24.
• Investigated a report of potentially suspicious activity near a South Main Street construction site during the evening of May 24.
• Were informed on May 24 that someone had stolen, forged and cashed a check from a local business.
• Responded to the report of gunshot noise in Buttolph Acres area on May 25.
• Responded to a report of an unknown medical emergency in the downtown area at around 5:30 p.m. in May 25.
• Served a no-trespass notice on May 25 on a person on behalf of Tri-Valley Transit.
• Received a report that a dog had been left unattended in a vehicle parked off Maple Street on May 25.
• Took, to Porter Hospital, a man who had been “acting strangely” at a Court Street filling station on May 25.
• Responded to a report of cows in Quarry Road on May 25.
• Were informed of theft of a bike from downtown on May 26.
• Conducted parking enforcement downtown during the afternoon of May 26.
• Cited Todd M. Brigham, 32 of Middlebury for leaving the scene of an accident, after the vehicle he was driving allegedly collided with a Tri-Valley Transit bus on Pinewood Road. Police allege that Brigham then fled the scene. Both vehicles were damaged in this accident, but there were no injuries, police said.
• Received information on May 26 about an alleged habitual drunk driver in the South Munger Street area.
• Responded, along with Middlebury firefighters, to a report of a brushfire near Court Square on May 27.
• Checked on the welfare of a person at a Lindale Circle home on May 27.
• Investigated a report of a possible fight in the Bakery Lane area on May 27.
• Were informed of a possible assault that had allegedly taken place at Porter Hospital during the evening of May 27. As a result of their investigation, police determined that no crime had been committed.
• Responded to a report of a fight in progress in the Weybridge Street area at around 10 p.m. on May 28. Police said they determined it had only been a verbal argument.
• Responded to a report of suspicious activity in the East Main Street area on May 28.
• Investigated a domestic disturbance in the Valley View Drive area during the early evening of May 28.
• Received a report on May 28 about someone setting off fireworks in the Weybridge Street area.
• Received a report that a dog had been left unattended in a vehicle parked off College Street on May 28.
• Responded to the report of fireworks being set off in the Harrow Way area on May 28.
