Bristol man brandished a gun at police, is arrested
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Aug. 15 cited Benjamin Emmons, 32, of Bristol for three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, felony operating without owner’s consent, criminal threatening, and a probation violation, following an investigation into “numerous property thefts” in the area.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 14, police received a tip about Emmons allegedly being in possession of a firearm and a stolen truck but couldn’t locate him that day. The next day, police said they found Emmons inside the stolen truck on South Street in Bristol.
Police allege when they confronted Emmons, he drew a firearm — later determined to be a pellet gun — and threatened officers with it.
Police said they successfully disarmed Emmons and took him into custody. No officers were injured as a result, and Emmons suffered only minor injuries, according to police.
As a result of this investigation, police cited Emmons’s girlfriend — identified as Casey Garrison, 30, of Burlington — for felony operating without owner’s consent and providing false information to a police officer.
In addition to Middlebury police, Bristol police, Vermont State Police, Bristol Rescue, the Addison County State’s Attorney’s Office and Middlebury Probation and Parole assisted in the successful resolution of the case.
