Tiger boys’ tennis takes on locals in fun tournament
MIDDLEBURY — Before the Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team takes on Brattleboro in their first match of the season this coming Saturday, the Tigers got some practice with a group of community members this past Sunday.
In an annual season kick-off vs. the Middlebury Indoor Tennis Community team, the MIT squad took the title for a third time with a 4-3 win on April 12.
The scores were:
• First singles: Charles Young (MUHS) defeated Spencer Doran (MIT), 6-1, 6-3
• Second singles: Nate Cook Yoder (MUHS) defeated Luis Camancho (MIT), 7-6, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8)
• Third singles: Nathan Henderson (MIT) defeated Spencer Copeland (MUHS), 6-4, 6-2
• Fourth singles: Ben Marshall (MIT) defeated Nathan Stefani (MUHS), 6-4, 6-3
• Fifth singles: Colin Kriwox (MIT) defeated Adrien Malhotra (MUHS), 6-3, 6-2
• First doubles: Arthur Calvi & Leo Swenton (MUHS) defeated Kevin O’Neil & Charlie Biss (MIT), 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7)
• Second doubles: Jay Shapiro & Chris Eberly (MIT) defeated Xander Lu & Kirin Biancosino (MUHS), 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6)
“Every match was of high quality and contested closely,” MUHS Coach Ken Schoen said. “It was a huge crowd pleaser as the Community Team held a 3-2 lead late in the match”
The Tigers have been practicing all week for their debut matches in Brattleboro. MUHS plays its home opener on April 30 at 4 p.m. against Stowe.
