Marcel Eugene Rochon, 86, formerly of Vergennes
VERGENNES — Marcel Eugene Rochon, 86, passed away April 4, 2026. He was born in Marionville, Canada April 19, 1939. At the age of eight his parents bought a farm in Shoreham, Vt. and became U.S. citizens shortly thereafter.
In 1957 he met the love of his life, Raymonde Lafleche and they married in 1960. They lived happily together for 63 years until Raymonde’s passing May 9, 2023. He continued to stay on his father’s farm until 1963 when they bought a home in Shoreham, and worked at the Apple Co-Op. As time went by, he eventually rented a farm in Cornwall in 1967 with his brother Hector.
He became a volunteer fireman, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, and eventually bought a farm by Field Days in 1977. He continued to farm until 1984, when he sold out and got a 9 to 5 job which continued until 2003. They bought a campsite at Whispering Pines in Vergennes, Vt., where his brother Aural and his sister Simone had camps as well as large group of friends, and bought a place in Florida and did the snowbird thing for 18 years. They played pool, shuffleboard, weekly tree time, fishing, playing cards and occasionally went to the casino.
He just loved being retired (with Raymonde) although he didn’t sit around. He was “always” doing something. In 2017 they moved back to Vt. for good, which gave him so much more opportunity to “putter.” If you knew my father, he was a gentle gentleman, although he knew how to deliver tough love, he was a great individual as well as a great father, grandfather, brother-in-law and friend.
He is survived by his siblings Hector/Anita and Denise, as well as his Lafleche in-laws Aurelle/Carolyn, Rejean, Gisselle, and Lionel/Laura; nieces and nephews three children, Michael, Maurice, and Linda, who gave him nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Raymonde Lafleche Rochon; father, Louis Rochon; mother, Cecille Quineville Rochon; grandson, Wyatt Rochon; brothers Paul/Christeen, Rene/Catherine, Aurel/Margret and Germain; sister Simone/Charlie; -brother-in-law Rheal Lafleche; and sister-in-law Carolyn Lafleche.
His memorial service will be held at St. Peters Church in Vergennes, May 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., followed by both his and Raymonde’s burial at Prospect Cemetery, Vergennes, then an afterlife gathering at the St. Peters Hall.
He fought a good fight, kept the faith, and won the race! He will be thought of often, missed tremendously, and loved forever.◊
