JOEL RICHARD KING

CORNWALL — Our beloved husband and father, Joel Richard King, passed away at Helen Porter Rehabilitation and Nursing Home Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, after a long illness.

Joel was born Aug. 25, 1941, at home in Whitingham, Vt., to Guy and Lois (Fielder) King, the eldest of six siblings whom he helped support after their fathers’ untimely passing in 1961.

Joel graduated from Hinesburg High School in 1959 and was a dairy farmer for many years. He married Carol (Meader) King in 1971, and they raised their children on a small dairy farm in Whiting, Vt. After many years of farming for others in Vermont, he changed careers and became a milk truck driver for Holdman’s and McDermont’s until his retirement.

Joel was a man of the outdoors — he enjoyed his yearly deer hunting trips to Pennsylvania and later Missouri. He enjoyed picnics at Texas Falls in Hancock, Vt., and long walks in the woods berry picking. He was also an avid reader, loved gardening, woodworking and summer BBQs with the family.

Joel is survived by his wife, Carol (Meader) King; children Melanie King, Christopher (Heather) King and Helen (Jeremy) Putnam; his sisters Mattie Scott and Inga Hallett; and brothers Ira and Eric (Gina) King. He also leaves his 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Guy and Lois King, and his sister Rae Scribner.

The King family would like to thank the wonderful people at Helen Porter Rehab and Addison County Home Health and Hospice for their excellent care of our husband and father.

A memorial service will be held at the Whiting Community Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20. ◊
