DORIS DOWNS

MIDDLEBURY — Doris Downs, age 87, passed on Thursday, July 24, 2025, following a long illness. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Kelton Downs in July of 2023. Doris lost a beloved son, Shaun Litchfield to ALS in July, 2020.

Doris and her late husband Lyle Litchfield raised four children on the family dairy farm in Shoreham. Doris had four children: Callie Litchfield, Middlebury; Mark Litchfield (Janet) of St. Albans; and Rob Litchfield (Samantha) of South Burlington. Doris was predeceased by Shaun Litchfield of Rutland. Doris had 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Doris was a genuinely kind soul who had a smile for everyone. Doris and Kelly enjoyed winters in Florida for more than 20 years. Family and friends looked forward to visiting. Doris was an excellent cook, and there was rarely an empty chair at her table.

Doris enjoyed playing cards. Her favorite game was King Pede. Many afternoons she could be found seated at the table playing cards with friends at Project Independence. Doris will truly be missed by family and friends.

The family extends their appreciation for the care Doris received from the nurses and staff at Addison County Home Health and Hospice. They demonstrated the best of care for mom.

The graveside committal service and burial will take place on Saturday, Aug. 23, at noon, at the family plot in Mountain View Cemetery, Orwell.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, can be made in her memory to Project Independence in Middlebury.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.◊
