GREGORY LEIGH SCHROEDER

SALISBURY —Gregory Leigh Schroeder, 68, of Salisbury, Vt., passed away on July 30, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Greg was a man with a big heart — he loved helping anyone and everyone, especially people from his little town of Salisbury. He lived the last 28 years of his life on Lake Dunmore and helped take care of the small community of regular summer visitors of Noth Cove Cottages. He took pride in his unofficial role of tour guide/Mr. Fixit/fishing instructor.

Most everyone knew Greg, whether it was for helping every winter at the fishing derby, working around the cottages on the lake, or helping take care of Holman cemetery. You could even find him sometimes on a Saturday at the Salisbury landfill.

Greg was a jack-of-all-trades, and could usually fix anything, but mostly he loved to restore old things. If you were lucky enough to know Greg, you know he collected old things and loved to display them all over his home. Greg was a huge fisherman and hunter — he loved the outdoors; he loved walking in the woods and just exploring nature.

Throughout his life Greg explored a few different career paths. He worked on the Alaskan pipeline in 1976. He taught wood shop at Rutland Mental Health for a while before becoming manager of Taylor Rental and Graham Car Wash in Rutland, where he worked for 11 years. Then he took another new adventure in the flooring business working for Don Tredtin Wood Flooring Company, where he worked for many years until an injury on the job unfortunately left him to retire due to his disability.

One of the only comforts to his family of his unexpected passing was the fact that he would no longer be in pain.

Greg is survived by his children, daughter LeAnne “Sis” Disorda of Castleton, who he was always so proud of; his son, Robert “Bobby” Schroeder of Rutland, who was his pride and joy and his best bud; and his bonus child, Kris Dellveneri of Rutland, who he loved being a dad figure to.

Greg is also survived by his mother, Beverly Schroeder of Middlebury; his sisters Lisa Schroeder Ryan (Willem Jaring) of Panton, Teresa Schroeder of Middlebury, Allyson Bull of California and Julie Schroder of Middlebury. He is also survived by his three grandsons, who he loved very much and who nicknamed him “Papa by the Water,” Dylan and Riley Disorda of Salisbury, and Gideon of Rutland. Greg also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, who will miss him dearly.

He was predeceased by his father, Jerry Schroeder; his sisters Leanna Daley and Dianne Schroeder; his brother and best friend Kim Schroeder; and his nephew Justin Schroeder.

There will be a celebration of life on Sept. 13 at the Vergennes Legion from 2-4 p.m. Please bring your memories and stories to share. ◊
