DR. CAROL HARADEN

MIDDLEBURY — Dr. Carol Haraden, 71, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on July 27, 2025. Carol was born on Oct. 27, 1953, in Bar Harbor, Maine, to Chandler and Barbara Haraden. A pioneering statistician, loving mother, loyal friend, and Christian humanitarian whose life reflected her values, Carol leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion.

She earned her Ph.D. in statistics and rose to become Vice President at a leading healthcare improvement organization, where she played a vital role in transforming patient safety and outcomes on a national and global scale.

Among her many roles, she was especially proud to be a mother to her son, Jacob. Their bond was a source of joy, strength, and meaning in both of their lives.

When not lost in the pages of a good book, she was a passionate adventurer and hiked nearly every day in her “retirement.” Whether she was hiking, swimming, or paddling, she had a deep reverence for the natural world.

She had a gift for connecting with people, creating lasting bonds that spanned decades and distances. Known for her quiet yet abundant generosity, thoughtful spirit, quick wit, and infectious laugh, she offered warmth and encouragement freely, leaving a meaningful impression on everyone she met.

Carol lived her faith not just in words but in action, through service, humility, and a spirit of unwavering kindness. Her trust in God guided her through every chapter of her life.

She is survived by her beloved son, Jacob Auger, and her siblings, Peter Haraden and Susan Harvey. She leaves behind family, countless friends, and colleagues whose lives she enriched.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m., at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury, Vt., followed by a reception. Reception details will be provided at the service.

In lieu of flowers, we ask you to carry Carol’s light forward by reaching out to someone in need with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a small kindness. ◊
