Local swimmers fare well at league meet

MIDDLEBURY — The Vergennes Champs swim team finished third and Middlebury Marlins swimmers took fifth in the Champlain Valley Swim League Championship Meet, hosted at the Middlebury town pool this past Friday and Saturday.
The Burlington Tennis Club Barracudas won the title among the seven CVSL teams; Vergennes tallied 636.5 points and Middlebury garnered 469.5.
Across three sessions of competition, individual swimmers and relays from both local teams secured numerous top-three finishes.
Leading the way with three individual wins in the 18-and-under boys’ 100 individual medley, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle was VST swimmer Will Clark, who scored 48 points for the Champs.
An impressive number of Marlins earned two individual wins: Enea Ancarani, Felix Poduschnick, Ben Phinney, Selma Citarella and Jorgen Pirrung. VST and Midd swimmers who scored one individual win a piece were Riker Cooley, V; Zoey Kress, V; Maxine King, M; Jordan Hutchins, V; Constantin Bellmann, M; and Henry Cadoret, M.
Winning relays for VST were U10 girls 100 medley relay comprised of Margaret Smits, Savannah Wallace, Zoey Kress and Mabelle Fidalgo; VST’s U18 boys 200 medley relay comprised of Noah Smits, Will Clark, Khanlen Ouimette and Cohen Howell; MIDD’s U10 boys 100 free relay comprised of Enea Ancarani, Lincoln Hunt, Cooper Butler and Patrick Martin; VST’s U18 girls 200 free relay comprised of Ella Bearor, Ellie Brooks, Ella Romond and Adrienne Smits; and VST’s U18 boys 200 free relay comprised of Cohen Howell, Rowan Neffinger, Noah Smits and Khanlen Ouimette.
For second place finishes, Savannah Wallace, V, scored three second place finishes for her team, earning a total of 39 points for the Champs. Touching to secure second place twice was Constantin Bellmann, M; Jordan Hutchins, V; Henry Cadoret, M; Sadie Chance, M; and Noah Smits, V. Additionally, Vela Remaniak, M; Declan Husk, V; Enea Ancarani, M; Zoey Kress, V; Connor Husk, V; Cooper Butler, M; Felix Poduschnick, M; Ben Phinney, M; Lauren Husk, V; Ella Bearor, V; Adrienne Smits, V; and Khanlen Ouimette, V, all swam to second once.

Coming in second for relays was MIDD’s U10 boys 100 medley relay comprised of Lincoln Hunt, Cooper Butler, Enea Ancarani and Patrick Martin; MIDD’s U18 girls 200 medley relay comprised of Abigail Hamilton, Selma Citarella, Sadie Chance and Mitzi Poduschnick; VST’s U10 girls 100 free relay comprised of Savannah Wallace, Margaret Smits, Mabelle Fidalgo and Zoey Kress; MIDD’s U12 boys 200 free relay comprised of Harvey Bishop, Ben Phinney, Nolan Almstrand and Felix Poduschnick; VST’s U14 girls 200 free relay comprised of Annika Smits, Cecilia Neffinger, Lauren Husk and Jordan Hutchins; and MIDD’s U14 boys 200 free relay comprised of George Martin, Henry Schmitt, Weston Wright and Henry Cadoret.
For third place finishes, Cassandra Bellmann, M, and Khanlen Ouimette, V, each earned two, scoring 36 points for their teams.
