Bristol Police Log: Man cited on several charges
BRISTOL — Bristol police on Jan. 15 arrested Patrick Cota, 32, of Bristol on an active warrant.
An officer saw Cota pulling into a parking at a local business.
The officer advised Cota of the warrant and told him he was under arrest; Cota then ran off on foot.
After a brief chase, police took Cota into custody and cited him for driving with a criminally suspended license and resisting arrest. Police then turned him over to the Addison County Sheriff’s Department for the active warrant, which was issued for failure to appear for a previous court hearing.
Between Dec. 29 and Jan. 18 Bristol police completed 43 foot patrols and three car patrols, conducted 12 traffic stops, and checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School 20 times, at Bristol Elementary School 19 times and at local businesses 12 times.
Police also processed 25 fingerprint requests, conducted five welfare checks, helped two people gain access to their locked vehicles, responded to one 911 call that proved to be a misdial, and facilitated the return of one loose dog.

- On Dec. 29 helped a South Street resident with obtaining legal services.
- On Dec. 29 responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Airport Drive. The vehicles were gone when police got there.
- On Dec. 31 responded to a family fight on North Street. Police determined it was a verbal dispute and no action rose to the level of an offense.
- On Jan. 3 responded to a report of a crash on Prince Lane. The vehicles were gone when police arrived.
- On Jan. 3 assisted Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School with a truancy concern.
- On Jan. 3 helped a juvenile get a ride home.
- On Jan. 4 received a report of a potentially counterfeit bill being used at a Main Street business. Police found the bill was legitimate.
- On Jan. 6 assisted a community member obtain resources.
- On Jan. 7 responded to Mountain Street for a dispute but determined it was a civil matter.
- On Jan. 7 responded to Airport Drive for a juvenile in possession of tobacco and issued a ticket.
- On Jan. 7 issued a notice against trespass to someone on Firehouse Lane.
- On Jan. 8 received a report of an attempted fraud involving a party pretending to be from Medicare. An investigation is ongoing.
- On Jan. 8 responded to Firehouse Lane for an assault. Police helped the person obtain mental health services.
- On Jan. 8 received a report of unauthorized access to a bank account via ATM, and opened an investigation.
- On Jan. 8 helped find a juvenile on Lower Notch Road.
- On Jan. 8 helped the Bristol Public Works Department locate the owner of a vehicle that was interfering with snow removal.
- On Jan. 10 assisted Mount Abe with a truancy concern.
- On Jan. 10 completed a delayed crash report for damage done to a car while it was parked in a lot on Prince Lane.
- On Jan. 10 responded to the East Street area for a complaint of erratic driving. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.
- On Jan. 11 helped Vermont State Police locate a vehicle.
- On Jan. 11 responded to a report of a possible alarm on School Street. Police determined the noise was coming from a phone alarm setting.
- On Jan. 12 began investigating to a trespass complaint on Mountain Street.
- On Jan. 12 helped someone on North Street report a scam.
- On Jan. 14 assisted Mount Abe with a truancy concern.
- On Jan. 14 were told of an unsecure business. Police contacted the owner and assisted in securing the business.
- On Jan. 14 received a delayed report of a parking lot crash on Airport Drive.
- On Jan. 15 assisted the Bristol Fire Department with a structure fire on East Street. Steven C. Leopold, 76, of Bristol was killed in the house fire. As a result of the fire, a death investigation was initiated. Assistance was received from state arson investigators. Investigation is ongoing.
- On Jan. 16 responded to a vehicle that slid off the road on Devino Lane.
- On Jan. 16 Bristol’s community resource specialist assisted an individual obtain resources.
- On Jan. 17 responded to a report of a family fight on Main Street. Police determined that a verbal dispute had occurred and no action rose to the level of an offense.
- On Jan. 17 checked on two dogs left in a vehicle on Airport Drive. Police did not observe any issues or concerns and determined the owner was completing a short meeting.
- On Jan. 18 attempted to locate a vehicle driving at an excessive speed but were unable to locate the it.
