CAROLYN SILSBY PATERSON

KEARNEY, Mo. — Carolyn Jean Silsby, who died Jan. 21, 2025,  was born to Edward and Virginia Silsby in Hanover, N.H.  She has one sister, JoAnne Elizabeth. Her family moved to Vermont, where she grew up, attending Middlebury High School and then Middlebury College for nursing. She transferred to Vermont State University Castleton for teaching.

Carolyn married Alan Jerome Ball. They had two girls, Leslie Carol Alana and Barbara Anne. Soon the family made their way to Tulsa, Okla., remaining for many years. After divorcing Alan, Carolyn married Donald Paterson. Carolyn made her career with the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office as secretary. Donald preceded her in death.

After retiring, she moved to Kearney, Mo., to be nearer to her daughter Leslie. Carolyn found joy and fulfillment within her congregation and her family. She was a proud Lutheran and enjoyed being part of the church choir as well as participating in Handel’s Messiah performance each Christmas in Tulsa.

After a long battle with cancer, our Lord called her home, where she is now in His healing presence. She leaves behind her first husband, Alan; her sister, JoAnne; her two daughters, Leslie and Barbara; four grandchildren, Cassandra Swain, Bridget Saldivar, Vence Jackson and Tyler Cooper; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn was dearly loved and will be fiercely missed. A service was held Jan. 26, 3 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kearney Mo.◊
