JUDY THIBODEAU

VERGENNES — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judy Thibodeau, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Judy passed away peacefully on Jan. 9, 2025, after a courageous battle with COPD, surrounded by her children.

Born in Burlington, Vt., on April 8, 1947, Judy moved to Maine with her mother as an infant. There, she built her family and her career in the manufacturing industry before returning to Vermont in 1996 to begin a new chapter surrounded by loved ones.

Judy was a dedicated worker and homemaker, excelling in every role she took on. While in Vermont, she managed a deli, earning a reputation for crafting amazing sandwiches. She had a gift for making others feel special, a quality reflected in her heartfelt social media posts and the loving relationships she nurtured. Judy loved creating photo albums for her family, ensuring cherished memories were preserved for generations.

A resident of Armory Lane Senior Living Community, Judy was cherished for her sharp mind, warm heart, and love for technology. She was the go-to person for troubleshooting iPhones, Roku devices, and all things tech-related. Her neighbors often sought her help, and she was proud to connect them to the gadgets that brought them joy.

Judy and her dear friend Pauline shared a playful tradition of shopping together—often buying items, then returning them to exchange for something else. This lighthearted pastime was just one example of her fun-loving spirit.

Fiercely independent and of sound mind until the end, Judy was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, David Thibodeau, who passed on April 9, 2015. Together, they built a life that, while not without its challenges, was filled with moments of love and connection.

Judy is survived by her children: Gina Hoague, along with her husband Shawn, of Addison, Vt., and Peter Thibodeau of Panton, Vt. She is also survived by her grandsons: Tyler Hall of Weybridge, Vt., along with his life partner, Gabby Sullivan, and his son, her only great-grandchild, Wesley; Ryan Jennings of Addison, Vt.; and her bonus grandson, Ryan Hoague of Bristol, Vt. Each of them brought her immense joy and pride.

She will be deeply missed by her sister, Pam Sprague (Brian) of Kennebunk, ME; her in-laws, Larry (Paula) Thibodeau, Sharon (Don) Libby, and Kathryn Gauthier of Sanford, Maine; her brother, Vedder Holden, and his family of Vermont; and her special cousin, Judi Gillilan of Vermont. Judy was also blessed with many dear friends, including Pauline Rheaume, Sue Mattison, Conrad and Sharon Busier, and Kathleen Harriman, who shared her life at Armory Lane.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care team who supported Judy throughout her illness: Dr. Kate Menson, Dr. Dylan Estes, and her home health aide, Dakota Odell Racine. A special thanks to the staff of Helen Porter Nursing & Rehabilitation, including the acute rehab wing team and the ARCH Suite care providers, Dr. Karen Fromhold, Dr. Clare O’Grady, Lydia Vorsteveld, APRN, Erica Mathis, RN, and Matthew von Berens, Chaplain.

Arrangements are under the care of Stephen C. Gregory & Son Cremation Service.

A celebration of Judy’s life will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Vergennes American Legion Post 14. Further details will be shared with family and friends in the coming weeks.

Judy’s legacy of caring for others, her love of technology, and her devotion to family and friends will forever be remembered. Life is not measured by the days we live, but by the love we give.

Judy touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to inspire and warm the hearts of all who knew her. ◊
