Lincoln news for Jan. 9

LINCOLN — An afternoon craft session will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the library. Crafters will be making a lantern. All materials will be provided. A light snack and tea will be offered. All ages are welcome.

There will be a green burial informational session at the library on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. Host Jim Hogle, president of the Vermont Forest Cemetery (VFC) will be there to answer questions and support conversation around the wide range of topics death and burial presents us, from the spiritual, to the logistics, to the science, to the legalities. Part of the intention of this event is to think about what the establishment of a green burial ground in Lincoln could look like. Light refreshments will be provided.

It’s January and that means it’s almost time for Hill Country Holiday weekend, presented by Lincoln Sports. Here is a preliminary schedule of events: On Friday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m. there will be a taco dinner by Erika at Burnham Hall to benefit the Burnham Foundation. You can stay and eat or take it to go.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, the Lincoln Cooperative Preschool Parade begins at 11 a.m. Join the preschoolers in song as the parade marches from the Lincoln General Store to the library. The library is offering lunch and sleigh rides at noon. The preschool will be holding their annual spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. at Burnham Hall and will feature the Great Meatball Competition.

If you are interested in entering the meatball competition, please email Andy at [email protected] by Thursday, Jan. 30. Each contestant must arrive at Burnham Hall by 4:30 p.m. with their meatballs already prepared. Contestants should make homemade meatballs and have enough of them to fill a crockpot. Please be sure to include a notecard with the family friendly name of your recipe and list any common allergens that may be unusual to find in a meatball. There will be judges scoring each entry and there will also be a fan vote.

After the spaghetti dinner, enjoy watching the many talented people in town as they show off their skills in the Lincoln Variety Show at 7 p.m. To sign up your act, please email Jo Jackson at [email protected]. Enjoy an evening of song, dance, poems, skits, comedy, and whatever else the people come up with. This is a must-see event.

There will be sledding on the Lincoln Sports hill near the fire station at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. At noon, learn how to jack jump and then join the competition at 1 p.m. when the second annual jack jump race begins. Please visit the Lincoln Sports website at lincolnsports.org/hill-country-holiday to fill out a waiver if you plan on participating in the race.
