The Henry Sheldon Museum in downtown Middlebury still has its trains on display for a few more days (well, through Jan. 4). There’s also a letterpress printing hands-on activity coming Jan. 4, with John Vincent from A Revolutionary Press. Check out the details below.

Rolling down the tracks: holiday trains

The elaborate train layout stands three levels high, with tracks running Lionel O gauge trains, Lionel 027 gauge trains, and an upper track running HO trains. The layout includes a backdrop of the Green Mountains painted by local artist Gayl Braisted, an operating gondola ski lift, skiers, snowboarders, and rock climbers, and bicyclists.

Regular museum admission applies to train visits. The last few slots to see the trains will be Thursday, Jan. 2, from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.. Friday, Jan. 3 and Saturday, Jan. 4, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Letterpress printing in the Makerspace

There will be a hands-on printmaking activity on Saturday, Jan. 4, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at the museum in the Kids’ Makerspace upstairs. John Vincent from A Revolutionary Press will have his press set up and will guide participants through the letterpress printing methods used in 19th-century printing. Make a print to take home with you. Free admission for all.
