CARMEN A. DESFORGES

MIDDLEBURY – Carmen A. Desforges, 87, died Dec. 4, 2024, in the Arch Estuary Suite at Porter Medical Center, surrounded by her nieces and nephews.

She was born in Shoreham, Vt., April 15, 1937, the daughter of Amedee and Cordelia (Dutil) Audet. She married John Desforges on April 20, 1985, at Saint Mary’s Church in Middlebury.

Carmen graduated from Middlebury High School in June of 1955. She worked on the family farm until 1961, when she moved to Middlebury. Carmen’s occupation included working at the Chittenden Bank, Proctor Bank, Middlebury Discount Beverage, Phinney’s Paint and Decorating and retired from Middlebury College. After retiring she enjoyed mowing lawns at the Addison County Fair and Field Days until the age of 85. Hobbies included crocheting, knitting, bowling, golfing, softball, gardening, puzzles and walking daily until her goal of 10,000 steps was met on her Fitbit.

Surviving her is her brother, Robert Audet (Claire). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Carmen was predeceased by her husband, John; and her siblings Henry Audet, Marcel Audet, Madeleine Dubois, Rollande Cloutier and Jeannette Lalonde.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 326 College Street, Middlebury, Vt. The Rev. Brandon C. Schneider will officiate. There will be no calling hours.

The family would like to recognize the truly wonderful staff at Shard Villa, Hospice of Addison County and the Palliative support team of the Arch Estuary at Porter Medical Center, during her final journey.
