TAWNYA RAE QUESNEL

SHOREHAM — Tawnya Rae Quesnel, 51, of Shoreham, Vt., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at his home from a heart attack. Tawnya, a loving husband to Jenny, was deeply devoted to his family, and his loss will be felt by many.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jenny Quesnel of Shoreham; his children, Terrian Quesnel and Tierek Quesnel of Shoreham, Chauntae Quesnel of Rutland, and Darnell Quesnel of Middlebury; his granddaughters, Iris and Isabella; his siblings, Lorenzo Quesnel (Amy) of Shoreham and Dolly Dame of Salisbury; sisters-in-law Jeannie Quesnel and Susan Quesnel, both of Salisbury; father-in-law Michael Denis (Cynthia) of New York; mother-in-law Patricia Raymond Smith (Arnold) of Middlebury; brothers-in-law Jason Denis (Rose) of Brandon and Tyler Malloy of Middlebury; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Tawnya was predeceased by his parents, Lorenzo Sr. and Anna (Diekel) Quesnel; his brothers, Randy Quesnel Sr. and Terry Quesnel; and his nephew, Randy Quesnel Jr.

Born on Sept. 17, 1973, in Middlebury, Vt., Tawnya was the youngest of five children. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Salisbury, though he was quick to admit that he didn’t have much affection for the cows. Instead, Tawnya found joy in fast cars, fixing things, tinkering with machinery, and spending time with loved ones.

After a period living in Florida, Tawnya returned to Vermont and started a small agricultural trucking business. His hands-on skills and practical knowledge were a hallmark of his character, and he took satisfaction in seeing a job well done.

Tawnya was deeply close with his children and his wife, Jenny, cherishing the time they spent together. He preferred quiet weekends at home, watching movies, playing board games, and making memories with his family, over going out. His love and dedication to them were unwavering.

He also took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments, especially his sons, who followed in his footsteps by playing football — a sport he had loved during his youth — and earning their CDL licenses.

A towering figure with a heart to match, Tawnya’s presence filled every room he entered. His love for his family, his knack for solving problems, and his pride in his children’s growth will be cherished by all who knew him.

Tawnya’s light, love, and larger-than-life spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the American Legion in Middlebury, Vt. Family and friends are invited to share memories and honor Tawnya’s legacy.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider a memorial donation to assist Tawnya’s family with expenses during this difficult time. Donations may be sent to Attn: Quesnel Memorial, Addison County Restorative Justice Services, 282 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home. ◊
