Bettelee Crawford, 91, of Whiting
WHITING — Bettelee Crawford passed away peacefully on Nov. 27, 2024, at her home in Whiting, surrounded by her devoted children.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1933, in New Haven, Conn., to Gladys and Lee Embich. Bettelee moved to Whiting in 1950 with her parents and her sister, Susi, to relocate their farm from Milford, Conn. to Whiting.
Bettelee married her high school sweetheart, Robert Crawford from High Mowing School in Wilton, N.H. She and Bob married in 1955 and together they operated Scapeland Farm for 40 years. Bettelee loved and took pride in breeding quality Ayrshire cattle that won many awards on a national level. They were awarded the Vermont Dairyman of the Year in 1984. She also had a keen interest in antiques and for many years she ran the Red School House Antique Shop and attended auctions and shows with her mother and sister.
In her later years she was an avid gardener, especially at their summer home in Orwell. She also loved to travel, believing it was one of the best forms of education and always encouraged her family to travel. Bettelee’s family was a great source of joy to her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 2017.
Bettelee is survived by her sister, Susi Parnell of Whiting, and by her three children, Sherry, Cindy (Kurt Anechiarico) and Jim Crawford, all of Whiting; grandchildren Galen Parke of Jackson, Wyo., Brianna Parke of Seattle, Wash., Dacey Anechiarico (Jordan Holmes) of Bluffton, S.C., Ben Crawford of Bozeman, Mont., and Elisabeth Crawford at UVM; and great-grandson Alden Stoelting of Seattle, Wash.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer. ◊
