Jeannette M. Mailloux, 97, of Ferrisburgh
FERRISBURGH — Jeannette M. Mailloux, 97, of Ferrisburgh, Vt., passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Gobles, Mich., on Oct. 3, 2024.
She was born at home in Lacolle, Quebec, Canada, on Sept. 17, 1927, to Ernest and Josephine (Racine) Bouvier, the eldest daughter of 12 children. At the age of 13, Jeannette helped care for her siblings upon the death of her mother. She would later become a seamstress and accomplished dressmaker.
Jeannette married John Paul Mailloux in Lacolle on April 29, 1950. Jeannette and John moved to Ferrisburgh, Vt., in 1953 to operate Green Mountain Honey Farms, where they made their living as beekeepers and raised their seven children. After retirement, they went on to establish Mailloux’s Vermont Country Farm Market during the 1980’s, growing apples, greenhouse plants, offering Vermont products and especially Jeannette’s fresh baked homemade pies.
Jeannette was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her Catholic faith was foremost in her life, she imbued the love of Christ and His Blessed Mother into her daily living, teaching all her children to pray the Rosary. She enjoyed sewing, baking, traveling and most of all, her family. She always remained close to her siblings, and they loved to reminisce and retell family stories. To her grandchildren, she was their beloved “Memere.” There was often a houseful of children eager for some of her baked goodies.
Jeannette was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John Paul Mailloux; her six brothers, Armand, Ernest, Adrian, Paul, Andre and Gerald; four sisters, Berthe, Yolande, Rejeanne and Marie-Claire; granddaughter Rebecca Baker; and son-in-law David Marshall.
She is survived by her sister Lucille Blanchard of Williston, Vt.; her seven children: Ginette (Don) Baker of Bowdoin, Maine; John L. (Susan) Mailloux of Columbus, Ind.; Denis (Sally) Mailloux of New Haven, Vt.; Paul (Lu-Anne) Mailloux of Vergennes, Vt.; Jackie Marshall of Gobles, Mich.; Giselaine (Tom) McClay of Ferrisburgh, Vt.; and Ernest (Amy) Mailloux of Holly Springs, N.C.; 33 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren (with 4 great-grandchildren to arrive later this year); 6 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., with Rosary at 6:30 p.m., at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Middlebury.
