Opera Vermont concerts celebrate Giacomo Puccini

Opera Vermont, in partnership with the Chandler Center for the Arts, proudly presents a special concert dedicated to the timeless music of Giacomo Puccini, one of the world’s most beloved opera composers. This extraordinary event will feature pieces from every opera Puccini wrote, performed by artists from across the country who have previously sung with Barn Opera/Opera Vermont.

There will be two performances: Saturday, Sept. 21, 7:30 p.m. at the Barn Opera House in Brandon; and Sunday, Sept. 22, 3:30 p.m., at Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph.

This collaboration marks the beginning of an exciting partnership between Opera Vermont and the Chandler Center for the Arts, leading up to their much-anticipated November 2025 production of William Grant Still’s “A Bayou Legend.” Together, they aim to bring exceptional operatic experiences to Vermont audiences, celebrating classical, contemporary, and under-represented works.

The Vermont audience can anticipate a journey through Puccini’s entire operatic repertoire, with performances by many distinguished singers who will return to Vermont after captivating the Barn Opera audience over the past years, and on stages nationwide in the meantime. The program will include beloved arias, duets, and ensembles from masterpieces such as “La Bohème,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Tosca,” and “Turandot,” as well as gems from lesser-known operas like “La Rondine,” “Le Villi,” and “Manon Lescaut.”

“We are thrilled to partner with the Chandler Center for the Arts to present this unique celebration of Puccini’s music,” said Joshua Collier, Artistic Director of Opera Vermont. “This concert not only showcases the incredible talent of artists who have been a part of Opera Vermont’s history but also builds momentum as we look ahead to our production of ‘A Bayou Legend’ — the first by an African-American composer, and performed by a completely BIPOC cast in the state of Vermont. Puccini’s music is timeless, and we are delighted to bring this full-spectrum experience to both the Brandon community as well as introducing ourselves to the center of the state, and welcoming them to the Opera Vermont family.”

The evening will feature accompaniment by the magnificent NYC pianist Eric Malson, and conducted by Opera Vermont music director, Cailin Marcel Manson, enhancing the dramatic and emotional impact of Puccini’s works. This concert promises to create an unforgettable night of music that underscores the powerful collaboration of Opera Vermont and the Chandler Center for the Arts, and foreshadows the high-quality cultural events that Opera Vermont plans to bring to every corner of Vermont.

Tickets for these two concerts are available at operavermont.com.
