Jesse Calvin Hanson, 100, of Bristol
BRISTOL — Jesse Calvin Hanson was born in Monkton April 15, 1924, and died in Middlebury on Sept. 2, 2024. He was the second of four sons of the late Amos B. and Ruth Carpenter Hanson of Starksboro.
A graduate of Bristol High School class of 1942, Jesse worked on the family farm and later joined the army, U.S. Infantry Division, Signal Corp, in 1949. On June 18, 1949, Jesse married Ruth Alice Briggs of Lincoln. Jesse and Ruth Brought their family up in their home on Mountain Street in Bristol, where he resided until he was more than 100 years old. Jesse was a huge animal lover all his life. He supported his community and loved his friends and family.
Jesse retired from Foster Motors in January 1989, where he was Parts Department Manager for 25 years.
Jesse was a 79th year member of the Masonic Fraternal Order, Libanus Lodge 47 of Bristol, a past Knight Templar of the York Rites Bodies of Middlebury, 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Burlington, and a longtime member of Cairo Shrine temple of Rutland, Vt.
Jesse was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Alice, and his brothers William of Bristol and Earl of Monkton. He is survived by his brother Charles (Rose) Hanson of Williston; his daughter, Linda Hanson of Bristol; son Brian and Pam Hanson of Tucson, their daughter Michelle Fleshman (Daniel Carmona) and children Meriah Carmona of Tucson and Italia and Paloma Carmona of Dickerson, Md.; and son Bruce (Maureen) Hanson of Cape Coral, Fla.; grandson Ryan Hanson of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughter Lindsay Hanson (Edward) Yarmosh of Cape Coral, Fla.; and great-granddaughter Norah Grace Yarmosh of Cape Coral, Fla. Jesse also leaves his many loving nieces “beautiful gems” and nephews, their spouses and families.
Jesse was very fortunate to have a circle of close, caring, kind and loving friends with him until the end of his days. These folks are a valued part of our family, and we thank you for all you have done to make his last years at home possible.
In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to Libanus Lodge, c/o Cecil Foster, 38 West Street, Bristol; Homeward Bound, Middlebury; or Helen Porter Nursing and Rehabilitation in Middlebury.
Funeral service will be held Oct, 19, at 11 a.m., at Libanus Lodge in Bristol. ◊
