Letter to the editor: Many helped injured cyclist on Route 30
On Wednesday, 17 July, I suffered a traumatic bicycle accident. I have no memory of the accident. I do know I had turned left off of Cider Mill Road and was cycling back home on Route 30. The next thing I know I was waking up in the ICU at the UVM Medical Center.
What I was told is that I had an accident on Route 30 and ended up unconscious in or near the lane of travel. I was subsequently surrounded by a group of individuals who protected me from oncoming traffic and stayed with me until the ambulance arrived. After being transported to Porter Hospital I was airlifted by helicopter to UVM Medical Center.
As I mentioned above, I have no memory of any of these events. I do know I owe many people sincere thanks for taking care of me and actually saving my life. I don’t know who you are. Nevertheless, I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time from your busy day to help me. After a week in the hospital I am now home recovering, and I hope to ride another day. Again, thanks to each you.
