Gary Edward Wheelock, 81, Bristol native
PORT ORANGE, Fla. —Gary Edward Wheelock, age 81, of Port Orange, Fla., passed away on Dec. 15, 2023, with family by his side.
Gary graduated from Bristol High School in 1960. He began his career at Pratt & Whitney in 1961. Gary and his wife raised their family in Bristol, Conn., always returning to Vermont for holidays and long visits.
Gary was born to Edward and Barbara (Kelton) Wheelock on Jan. 14, 1942. Some of his best stories were of growing up in the 40s and 50s in Bristol, Vt. His teenaged years were spent working at the A&P, the Bristol Inn, and the former Hotel Dunmore. He loved to reminisce about old times.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Barbara Wheelock, as well as siblings Donna and Rodney.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Humphrey) Wheelock; his sisters Debbie Zeno (Paul) of Cornwall and Susan Gowen of Middlebury; his daughter, Lynn (Phil) Laforest; sons Brian (Melissa) and Craig (Melissa); seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gary will be laid to rest on the old Kelton farm in South Lincoln, Vt., a place he often returned to in memories. ◊
