Letter to the editor: Please support your award-winning newsletter

Shortly after reading the cover article of this week’s Seven Days newspaper titled: ‘It was eye opening that we could lose that much money,’ I walked to the Salisbury PO and got my weekly Addison Independent newspaper. There it was, thick this week including four sections of “Profiles in Community” featuring many of you. Of course the front news section, sports section and Arts & Leisure were there too.

The Seven Days article highlights the grim statistics regarding the nationwide loss of 2,900 local newspapers since 2005 and two more fail each week. Vermont has fared better, and many including our dear Addy Indy, award-winning year after year, are creatively doing things to make it work. As Angelo said in the article, “We’re not just sitting by as we die.” And as Lisa Mitchell, executive director of the Town Hall Theater says in the same article, “The Addison Independent is the Gold Standard of Journalism. This year it was selected as the best weekly newspaper at the New England Newspaper and Press Association annual contest.”

Earlier this year The Addy Indy began a campaign called ‘Addy All-Stars’. Those of us who donate at least $50.00 (or more) on top of our annual subscription fee, can join this Addy All-Stars club.

People! We need the Addison Independent to stay alive and strong. It is hugely vital to our Addison County community health in so many ways. Step up and become an Addy All-Star!
