Vergennes Police Log: Welfare checks, alleged harassment

VERGENNES — Incidents that required action from Vergennes police between April 1 and 7 included several welfare checks, alleged harassment by an ex-boyfriend, and an investigation of an untimely death. Police also received reports from parents of unfortunate incidents for informational purposes, including one from the parent of a Vergennes Union Elementary School student.

During those seven days police responded to a false alarm; conducted seven cruiser patrols, 13 traffic stops, one property watch and one VIN inspection; and:

On April 1:

• Took a report from a Walker Avenue resident that an unknown vehicle had left ruts on a lawn.

• Checked on the welfare of a resident on behalf of AgeWell and determined the person was OK.

On April 2:

• Checked the welfare of an Armory Lane resident and determined the person was OK.

• Looked into the untimely death of a West Main Street resident, Sandra Bourgeois, and determined it was due to natural causes.

On April 3:

• Checked the welfare of an Armory Lane resident and determined the person was OK.

• On behalf of one member of a separated couple checked on the welfare of children in a Hillside Drive apartment and determined they were OK.

• Heard from a Hillside Drive resident for future reference that her adult son had been disrespectful and disruptive before leaving her apartment.

On April 4:

• Responded to a North Main Street accident in which a car slid off North Main Street during a snowstorm. Police said two people were transported to Porter Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

• Took a report from a VUES parent for information purposes that a child there had been subjected to derogatory remarks that were at least partly racially based.

On April 6 counseled a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was sending her threatening and harassing texts. Police said they tried multiple times unsuccessfully to contact the alleged offender, advised the victim how to obtain a restraining order, and told her to call 911 in the event of any future incidents.
