Arts & Leisure Real Estate Advice
Real estate advice: Bonnie Gridley
What advice would you give to prospective home buyers?
Preparedness as a home buyer is paramount. First explore, with at least three different lenders, their loan options for you and get a letter of pre-qualification, so you know what you can afford. It’s always more rewarding to go shopping when you know what your budget is.
Make sure you choose a lender on more than just the numbers. You will want one who is a good communicator, who can explain the process, and also keep you informed of changes in the interest rates and loans and how they affect your affordability. Local lenders understand the local inventory and usually have good working relationships with local realtors.
Next find a realtor who you feel is experienced in the market you are interested in purchasing. I suggest interviewing three to four to find one who can represent and work for you in the buying process. Make a list of the qualities the person should possess to work with you as a team and you can trust to recommend resources to you every step of the way.
If you employ these two elements at the very outset of your buying experience then you will find the professionals you engage will make the house buying experience less time consuming, more enjoyable and less stressful for you.
Happy house hunting!
