Middlebury Police Log: Middlebury women cited for assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Stacee Earle, 42, of Middlebury for simple assault, following an incident at a Court Street residence on Jan. 11. Police were called a little after 11 p.m. on that Thursday.

In addition to conducting daily checks of the houseless individuals camping under the Cross Street Bridge off Bakery Lane, Middlebury police:

• Investigated an embezzlement complaint at a Court Street business on Jan. 8.

• Enforced the town’s overnight winter parking ban downtown on Jan. 8, 9, 11 and 12.

• Helped an intoxicated woman in the Seymour Street area on Jan. 8.

• Responded to the East Main Street and Lower Plains Road areas of East Middlebury on Jan. 9 after receiving reports of downed powerlines creating a hazard.

• Investigated a theft complaint in the Abbey Pond Road area on Jan. 9.

• Provided traffic control on Case Street on Jan. 10 due to numerous traffic hazards created by the windstorm.

• Assisted a tow truck operator whose vehicle had become entangled in power lines near the intersection of Case Street and Quarry Road during the Jan. 10 windstorm.

• Provided traffic control on Halladay Road on Jan. 10 in light of downed powerlines resulting from the windstorm.

• Checked on a vehicle that had slid off Route 116 in Bristol on Jan. 10.

• Responded to Case Street on a report of a vehicle hitting low hanging telephone wires during the Jan. 10 windstorm. Police said no one was injured.

• Helped a local woman struggling during the Jan. 10 windstorm.

• Assisted a person having a mental health emergency at the Middlebury Inn on Jan. 10.

• Responded with Middlebury Regional EMS to a medical emergency in the Middle Road area on Jan. 10.

• Gave a ride home to a person who was stranded at Porter Hospital on Jan. 10.

• Found shelter for a person found sleeping off Bakery Lane during cold weather on Jan. 11.

• Investigated a vandalism complaint involving a vehicle parked off Route 7 South on Jan. 11.

• Helped a woman and her children get into their Otterside Court home after having been locked out on Jan. 11.

• Went to a South Village Green office building on Jan. 12 for a report of a man who was refusing to leave. Police said the man had left upon their arrival.

• Investigated a three-vehicle crash, with no reported injuries, near the intersection of Cross and Court streets on Jan. 12.

• Received a report of a vehicle being egged while parked on Washington Street Extension on Jan. 12.

• Assisted state police with a drunk-driving screening on Washington Street on Jan. 12.

• Responded to a Maecliff Court home on a noise complaint on Jan. 12. Police said they found some Middlebury College students playing music. The students agreed to shut down the gathering.

• Assisted Vermont State Police in helping two people who had driven their vehicles off Route 125 in Ripton on Jan. 13.

• Received reports of several downed trees on power lines along Schoolhouse Hill Road on Jan. 13.

• Investigated a littering complaint on Delancey Lane on Jan. 13.

• Intervened in a dispute between a customer and a Court Street business on Jan. 13.

• Responded to a burglary at Two Brothers Tavern on Jan. 13. Police said the culprit entered the business through a door that “was not secured properly” and left with an amount of money that was still being tallied as the Independent went to press. 

• Briefly closed East Munger Street on Jan. 13 after a tree had fallen on adjacent power lines.

• Conducted traffic control on Case Street and Quarry Road during the Jan. 13 windstorm.

• Responded to a report of a suspicious man in the Weybridge Street area on Jan. 13. Police located the man, took him into protective custody for suspected drug impairment, and then took him to Porter Hospital for treatment.

• Helped Brandon police with a family fight at a Wood Lane residence on Jan. 13.

• Assisted a local man who was having mental health challenges on Jan. 14.

• Received eight 911 calls during the evening of Jan. 14 from a South Village Green residence attempting to buy a pizza. Police said it turned out to be a young child making the calls while his mother was in the shower.
