THOMAS JASPER COMES

MIDDLEBURY — Thomas Jasper Comes, age 60, of Middlebury, Vt., passed away peacefully on Nov. 12, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Fondly remembered by his friends and loyal customers as Dr. Tom, he spent his life restoring and creating beautiful custom pieces of furniture in his antique shop.

Tom was raised in East Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury Union High School before attending New Hampshire Technical Institute. When Tom wasn’t busy running his business, he enjoyed fishing, tending his garden, baking his famous bread and sticky buns, and being the crew chief for Team 51 at the racetrack.

Tom is missed and mourned by his children Christie Barry and husband Kevin of Maine, Ashley Luetticke and husband Sven of Germany, Justin Comes and partner Hailey of Fair Haven and Austin Comes of South Burlington; his beloved partner Carrie Maerder and her five children; as well as his siblings Mike Comes and his wife Rosie, sister-in-law Lynn Comes, Angie Wade and her husband Scott, and Tim Comes and his wife Jill. Lastly the loss of Papa T will be grieved by his five beloved grandchildren Sarah, Cameron, Lauren, Bennett, and Jasper. He is now reunited with his parents Jasper and Irene Comes and his brother Randy Comes.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Nov. 17, at 1:30 p.m., at Sanderson Funeral Home, located at 117 S Main St, Middlebury, VT 05753.

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Tom to paltown.org to support other patients and their families battling cancer or to Addison County Home Health & Hospice.
