Sampling history through embroidery
If you’re lucky, you might find one tucked away in a trunk in your attic: A piece of fabric — a square foot in size, give or take — bearing a cross-stitch of alphabet letters, a date, the maker’s name and age. Sometimes there’s an embroidered bonus of flowers, a home or a rural scene.
