Gail R. McEvoy, 84, of Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Gail R. McEvoy, 84, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening May 18, 2023 in Middlebury, Vt.

Gail was born March 15, 1939, in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of John and Helen (Abbazia) Petix. Gail graduated from Pope Pius High School then went on to Rutgers University School of Nursing, where she graduated in the class of 1961.

After graduation, she worked at Passaic General Hospital, and had a nursing career that spanned over 60 years. In the early 1980s, Gail and her family moved to North Ferrisburgh, Vt., were she and her husband Ray owned and operated McEvoy & Sons Feed and Grain. She also enjoyed working in the emergency room at Porter Hospital in Middlebury until she was 75. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She loved to travel and was a member of the New Horizons club. She loved cooking for her grandchildren, collecting recipes, and having lunch with good friends as well as the ladies of the Age Well Group.

She is survived by her children, Joel McEvoy and his wife Lisa of Essex Vt.; Brian McEvoy of Washington State; and Kelly McEvoy of Vergennes, Vt. She cherished seven beautiful grandchildren: Ryan McEvoy, Hanna McEvoy, Dylan McEvoy, Kaitlyn McEvoy, Zane LaDuc, Zachary LaDuc and Zander LaDuc; sister Marie Petix Lukowich (Joseph) of New Jersey and a brother, Guy Petix, wife Elaine, of Treasure Island, Fla.

Gail was pre-deceased by her parents and her husband, Raymond, who died on April 5, 2010, and sister Beatrice Nunziato of New Jersey, who passed on July 28, 1987. She was blessed with many nieces and a nephew, John Nunziato (wife Elizabeth, son Alec), Susan Leach, Kimberly Lipari, Lorraine Myers, Kathleen Capo and Sharon Hovis.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on June 23, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes, with Reverend Stephen Marchand as the Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gail’s honor to The Age Well Group (39 Court Street. Middlebury, VT 05753) or the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association (PO Box 504 Middlebury, Vermont 05753.
