NEW HAVEN — Richard L. “Dick” Daniels, 79, passed away April 12, 2023. He was born on Feb. 8, 1944, in Middlebury, the son of Ladd W. and Dorothy (Holcomb) Daniels.

Dick lived his entire life in New Haven except for the time in hospitals and nursing homes over the last ten years.

He graduated from Beeman Academy in 1962. After high school he held various jobs before starting work for Simmonds Precision on July 26, 1965. He retired from Goodrich on February 27, 2009, as he would say, 43 years 7 months and a day later.

On June 1, 1968, he married Nancy (Briggs) a union that lasted more than 54 years.

He devoted many hours to the family business, Daniels Orchard. He cut trees off the property for lumber to build the addition on his father’s house and was very involved in building an addition on his grandmother’s mobile home.

Dick enjoyed fishing, classic country music and hunting with his good friend John Wimett.

He is survived by Nancy and their son Christopher and his wife Sue of Starksboro; his brother Robert of New Haven; and numerous members of Nancy’s family, all of whom he was very fond of.

He was predeceased by his parents, stepparents, grandparents, his brother Raymond and Raymond’s son Eugene.

Dick was a member of the New Haven Congregational Church and New Haven Volunteer Fire Department as a charter member.
