Meet the ACSD superintendent finalists next week

The Addison Central School District board on Friday, April 14, announced two finalists for the ACSD’s Superintendent position: Suzanne Gruendling and Barbara Anne Komons-Montroll.

Both Vermont-based candidates will be coming to Middlebury next week for a full day of stakeholder group meetings, school tours and a final interview with the board on Tuesday, April 18, and Wednesday, April 19.

Members of the public can meet the two finalists at a community forum on Thursday, April 20.

Suzanne Gruendling is the Director of Policy Implementation for the Essex-Westford School District, where she has worked to develop and implement district-wide approaches to decreasing student truancy, supporting families and addressing student behavior issues. Prior to that, she served eight years as principal of Summit Street Elementary School, where she initiated Professional Learning Communities and incorporated Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Response to Intervention frameworks into school practice.

Gruendling holds a Master of Liberal Arts Management degree from Harvard University and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Vermont. Gruendling has extensive education experience in Vermont, including work as a math and sciences teacher, a building-based coordinator for special education, as well as elementary and middle school administration.

Barbara Anne Komons-Montroll has been the superintendent of Windham Southwest Union Supervisory Union since 2018, where she oversees five schools across six towns, including a high school. She has been an educator in Vermont for over 30 years, including work as an elementary school classroom teacher in Underhill, an elementary school principal in Worcester and Charlotte, and as the Director of Communications and Public Relations for the Champlain Valley Union School District. Prior to that, Komons-Montroll worked in early education as the Regional Director of Building Bright Futures of Franklin County.

She holds a Master of Educational Leadership degree from the University of Vermont and has served as Regional President of the Vermont Superintendents Association.

The ACSD board will host a virtual “Meet the ACSD Superintendent Finalists” community forum on Thursday, April 20, from 6:30– 8 p.m. Each candidate will be invited for 45 minutes.  The Zoom link is https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88611831619?pwd=Y21yRUZCMWF6TnY0NWwvMkg2OWQzQT09#success.
