Joan “Jo” Elizabeth Essex, 87, of Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — Jo Essex, 87, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at EastView in Middlebury. She was born in Ferrisburgh, Vt., the daughter of Ray and Caroline (Black) Husk. She was one of eleven siblings.
Jo attended two one-room schools (Middlebrook and Gage) and graduated from Vergennes High School in 1952. She attended Burlington Business College and worked as Office Manager at W.T. Grant until her marriage to Samuel H. Essex in 1956.
Jo enjoyed farming with Sam on Basin Harbor Road in Ferrisburgh. She enjoyed harvesting crops and especially making maple syrup in the woods on the farm. She served on the school board and as town auditor.
Jo is survived by three sons, David, Dan and Harriet, and Sam and Sue; four grandchildren, Jess and Adam, Tim and Kristen, Tyler and Katie, and Clarice and Jonnie; Clarice’s mother, Betsy; six great-grandchildren, Randy, Lilianna, Dylan, Haylee, Carly, and Sam; one sister, Louise Parkinson and her husband Jim; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam; son Timmy; daughter-in-law Mary; and siblings Florence Hawkins, Evelyn Cushman, Isabel Munnett, Marjorie Stygles, Lillian Birkett, Frances O’Connor, John Husk, George Husk, Neil Husk, and Elson Husk.
Friends may call at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m.
