James N. Sauder, 72, of Goshen
GOSHEN — James N. Sauder, aged 72, of Goshen, Vt., passed away July 10, 2021. Jim is survived by his son Ryan; daughter-in-law Shannon; grandchildren Jameson, Parker and Katherine; brothers Clair, Paul and Glen; and a network of close friends and colleagues. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Wendy V. Whaley-Sauder; son Jayme C. Sauder; and parents Marguerite S. Sauder and Raymond W. Sauder.
Jim was born Sept. 29, 1948, in Lititz Pa. He began his professional career in the 1970s working as a psychologist in Maryland, where he met Wendy. They soon married and moved to Goshen, Vt., to build a home and share a life together. Jim completed his education at Saint Michael’s College. Following his career in psychology Jim started a slate business, Vermont Specialty Slate, out of his barn and later relocated to Forestdale, Vt. Jim retired in 2018 after a long successful career supporting his family, where he made many meaningful professional and personal connections.
Aside from his professional interests, Jim enjoyed reading, lobstering and pyrotechnics while spending time in the family home in Manomet, Mass. Jim and Wendy vacationed at Manomet every summer. Jim became an avid golfer later in life. This was a passion he shared with his wife and was something they often competed with each other. He enjoyed going to Red Sox games with his family and was an avid woodworker. Jim enjoyed working in his wood shop, becoming an expert antique picture frame maker. He was generous with his work, which he enjoyed, giving as gifts to his friends and family. He was always busy either in his garden or “working” on his tractor and excavator building ponds and roads.
Jim was affectionately known as “Saud” by his wife and Opa by grandchildren. Jim deeply loved his family and dearly missed his wife Wendy and son Jayme following their passing.
